Study on Manhattan’s 19th century development

A new study from Barnard College outlines the rapidly evolving land-use patterns in Manhattan in the mid-19th century. The study covers a period from after the grid was laid out and before modern zoning started, mapping population density and the distribution of residential, commercial, and industrial areas. With the help of these geographical data conclusions can be drawn to social circumstance of the respective time.
