Four US cities among 90 applicants won the 2016 Global City Teams Challenge: Bellevue, Wash.; Portland, Ore.; Newport News, Va.; and Montgomery County, Md.. In total they will receive $350,000 in funding from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) with which the cities will develop new smart technology systems that can be easily replicated by other cities.
