SAE International, SAE World Experience, and General Motors have recently announced the participants for the three-year AutoDrive Challenge. The primary goal of the challenge is to develop and demonstrate a Level 4 autonomous vehicle. Chevrolet Bolt EV will be provided as a platform along with the aid of other suppliers and strategic partners, who will provide the vehicle parts and required software. The eight selected universities are Kettering University, Michigan State University, Michigan Tech, North Carolina A&T University, Texas A&M University, University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, and Virginia Tech. The three- year-long competition will be divided into separate challenges each year and the entire competition will focus on everything from autonomous technologies to modification and testing. The final goal of the competition is to navigate the vehicle in an automated driving mode as described by SAE Standard (J3016).
