Expertise: Urban intelligence platform, data quantification of modern city movement

Placemeter ingests any kind of video to analyze pedestrian and vehicular movement, revealing hidden patterns and strategic opportunities. Our platform leverages proprietary computer vision technology to gather data from live streams. We take privacy very seriously, designing our systems to yield useful data without identity detection.
Our mission is to help build stronger businesses, efficient cities, and innovative neighborhoods worldwide.
Our Products:
A series of algorithms first separate moving objects from the background. Our computer vision cascades then classify those objects as pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles, vehicles and large vehicles. Placemeter is robust and built to scale. First, the system handles an ever-increasing amount of video streams. Second, thanks to machine learning, the algorithms process video and classify objects in a wide range of new contexts. You get quick and easy access to your data through our Dashboard, API and Exports.
i) Proprietary Computer Vision Algorithms Built to Scale – More video streams, better data
We use advanced computer vision technology to lift data points from video streams. Our platform is built to support a network of cameras and, thanks to proprietary machine learning methods, our algorithms only improve at scale.
ii) The Placemeter Sensor – “State-of-the-art” hardware built for computer vision processing on the edge
Our platform works with the Placemeter Sensor, existing security camera systems, or simple IP cameras.
Our Service: Building Smarter Cities – One Block at a Time
Placemeter provides data about how citizens use the city of today, in order to build the cities of tomorrow.
Smart Cities
Placemeter:
- Measures multimodal traffic trends
- Identifies opportunities for infrastructure improvements
- Measures user flow: discover crowded and under-used areas
- Analyzes the use of design features (park benches, recycling bins, playground equipment)
- Determines the impact of temporary events and special programming
- Processes multiple activities on a single video feed
Using proprietary computer vision algorithms, we transform video streams into meaningful data about the volume and direction of pedestrians, bikes, and vehicles.
Tactical Urbanism
Placemeter measures:
- Neighborhood vibrancy: pedestrian, bike and vehicle traffic in your district
- Door counts
- Entrances and exits to parks, subways, and parking lots
- User flow on a specific area: discover crowded and under-used areas
- Use of design features like park benches, paths, and water features
Using proprietary computer vision algorithms, we transform video streams into meaningful data about the volume and direction of pedestrians, bikes, motorbikes, cars, and large vehicles.
Out-of-Home Advertising
Placemeter:
- Captures real-time reach, OTS, and dwell time metrics for your units
- Captures the effect of dynamic and interactive features on your digital boards
Using proprietary computer vision algorithms, we transform video streams into meaningful data about the number and direction of pedestrians, bikes, motorbikes, cars, and large vehicles
Retail
Placemeter measures:
- Store door counts
- Pedestrian traffic in front of your store
- Street-to-purchase conversion rate
- Impact of Black Friday, other sales, holidays, and seasons
Using proprietary computer vision algorithms, we transform video streams into meaningful data about the volume and direction of pedestrians, bikes, motorbikes, cars, and large vehicles.
Transportation
Placemeter:
- Measures entrances and exits to train and subway stations, parking lots, highway ramps
- Measures multimodal traffic trends
- Performs last-mile analysis to optimize park-and-ride facilities
- Processes multiple activities on a single video feed
- Visualizes demand accross stops in your transit network
- Determines best locations for bike lane development
Using proprietary computer vision algorithms, we transform video streams into meaningful data about the volume, direction, and entrances/exits of pedestrians, bikes, vehicles, trains, and ferries.
