The German rail infrastructure supplier Alstom has presented its Coradia iLint passenger train which is the world’s first zero-emission train that is powered by hydrogen. The train will most likely go into operation next year. The method of power generation makes the new ILint unique. It does not rely on fossil fuels like diesel. The train is powered by lithium ion batteries that are supplied a charge by an onboard hydrogen fuel cell. As a result it is very economically friendly. The only byproducts are steam and condensed water. The train can speed up to 87 mph and covers almost 500 miles a day. Moreover, it is incredibly quiet.
