The decline of fish stocks along the coasts of African countries is threatful for many people who make a living from fishing. The decline of fish stocks, linked to climate change, is an essential threat not just for the financial situation of people, but of the social and political stability of coastal communities. Rarely are there other sources of income. Therefore the protection of fish stocks is not just a question of environmental policy, but also of a socio-political nature. Legal measures and projects have already been put in place by some countries and organizations, but much has been done to avoid over-fishing and the consequential poverty of fishermen. COP22 which is currently taking place in Marrakech, is an opportunity to take measures in this concern.
