The potentials of the large research infrastructure of Europe is not maximized to bring about innovations. There are cases where academic research developed new products and approaches that where not taken up the industry and hence not realized. Money is wasted if research is persuade for its own sake. Closer cooperation between reseach and industry can make better use of the knowledge and technology that both fields are providing. Cooperation facilitators already exist in various forms but the innovation capacity is far from being entirely utilized.
