Coffee cup waste is a severe problem. 320,000 “to go” coffees are delivered in Germany every hour. The university of Freiburg has come up with an idea that aims at reducing this kind of waste. The “Freiburg Cup” is made from dishwasher-proof plastic and is obtained from cafes and bakeries for a deposit of one euro. The cup can be reused hundreds of times or returned. The cups are washed in cafes and bakeries, that signed up to the concept, before being reused or redistributed.
