It is the first time that power has been generated by a grid-connected tidal turbine in Canada. The Bay of Fundy is famous for its powerful tides that exceed heights of 20 metres. The turbine supplies electricity to 500 homes on Canada’s east cost. A second turbine is to be installed in 2017. Both turbines will be able to generate as much energy as 2,000 tonnes of coal per year.
