An artificial muscle made of a fishing line

By selectively heating nylon fibres, researchers at MIT managed to produce artificial muscles that are cheaper and stronger than existing ones. Further the tests have shown that nylon filaments can bend and recover comparable to the movement of fingers. This makes the material suitable to be applied in robots, biomedical devices, and toys, among others.
