According to a recent poll by Energy Visions 69,1 per cent of voters prefer living in a compact city like Singapore. They were voted more attractive places to live than sprawling cities. Compact cities can offset living more closely together by offering jobs, schools and health care, as well as access to the shops, restaurants and green spaces. Sprawling cities are inefficient in terms of energy and emissions which is a huge problem regarding that by 2040 cities account for about 80 per cent of world energy. In the future compact cities will depend on providing services like high building standards, integrated waste, water, power and heating/cooling infrastructures as well as public transport.
