The Jamaican government reveiled plans to develop the center of Kingston, New Kingston, with new technology within the next months. The core area of the capital functions as a test ground: if the technology proofs to be successful, smart technology will be introduced in neighborhoods throughout the country. Waste and traffic management, street lighting, and parking will be run by smart technologies. Further there will be free Wi-Fi connectivity. The technologies are expected to increase security and efficiency of the public administration. If all plans for New Kingston are realized, it will be the first neighborhood in the Caribbean to become smart.
