A new high speed telecommunication cable laid across the Pacific Ocean is supposed to increase the digital communication capacities for several Pacific Islands in the next few years. The Hawaiki submarine cable system runs between Sydney and the U.S. west coast. The system offers a unique opportunity of direct connectivity which benefits businesses and consumers across the Pacific Islands region. The system has a life of at least 25 years without needing maintenance.
