Engineers in the US have generated a Wi-Fi transmission that uses 10,000 times less power than common methods. This means downloads can be done all the time without shortening the battery life and it can be used with off-the-shelf smartphones. The team from the University of Washington has only achieved speeds of 11 megabits per second with the new connection but they work on getting the connection faster. But they have already shown that the “passive Wi-Fi” technology works.
