A remote railway station in the south of Denver’s airport, Peña Station, will be turned into probably one of the smartest neighborhoods worldwide. Supported by Panasonic, the area will function as a smart city lab where new technologies can be tested and developed further. The property was chosen due to its underdeveloped state as well as its proximity to the airport and public transit. So far the street lighting as been equipped with LED bulbs and within the next month an autonomous shuttle will be introduced; an air quality measuring system as well as high-density Wi-Fi will be installed in March 2017, just to mention but a few.
