Will there be a comeback of carpooling?

While carpooling has been very popular until about the mid 1970s, there is a great chance that it will make a comeback with the help of modern technology. Statistics of the US show that only 9 percent are currently sharing a ride. Though apps have been developed for several cities around the world to match drivers and riders, there is no great carpooling app yet that has the potentials to disrupt commuting patterns on a large scale.
