Carnival Corporation is turning cruise ships into smart cities at sea. The company introduced an “Ocean Medallion” designed to tailor tips to individual passengers by learning their tastes and habits. The Ocean Medallion was introduced at the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas. Connected to a web of sensors they help anticipate guests’ needs and prompt suggestions as the journey progresses. With the help of the medallions, the crew knows where people are and where they might be heading. Moreover they work as a key to unlock the cabin doors or as wallets charging on-board purchases.
