A study published by the World Bank explored the evolution of the start-up ecosystem in New York City in order to better understand the new model of start-up innovation ecosystems driven by the fourth industrial revolution and its economic impact. Four key characteristics have been identified as very important:
- Urban ecosystems can create new business and foster growth
- Urban ecosystems can generate “new” jobs
- Urban ecosystems can attract resources for local innovation
- Urban ecosystems can transform urban environments
