The Danish company MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has designed a 9 MW wind turbine, the V164, that set a new world record for wind power generated within 24 hours. On December 1, 2016 the turbine produced 216,000 kWh. It was installed at a testing site in Denmark. The turbine has a height of 722 feet and its blades are 263 feet long. Their sweep area is larger than the London Eye. The larger the turbine, the larger the power output, which makes offshore wind farms exponentially more efficient and brings down the cost of installation, maintenance and electricity.
