As part of the Digital Village initiative, the Indian government provides free wi-fi to 1050 villages in the next six months. The Digital Village initiative will cost over 62 million USD for basic internet access and avenues to interactive telemedicine and educational sessions. The initiative is a public-private partnership and will be driven through the common service centres. Cell phones users get access to the internet via wi-fi hotspots on towers.
