Sandia National Laboratories has designed a small, lightweight, flexible solar cell called “solar glitter”. These energy-generating cells could be attached and integrated in small gadgets like drones, satellites and smartphones. The microsystems enabled photovoltaics (MEPV) draw on microdesign and microfabrication techniques to create little solar cells that are then released into a solution like printing ink. The mix is then printed onto an inexpensive material.
