Streetlights as charging stations for EVs in the UK

UK Power Networks and Ubitricity have started to convert street lights into EV charging points in Kensington. By using street lights as charging stations, local residents can charge their vehicles near their homes and receive bills for the electricity use via their smart phone or PC. The access to the stations is ensured due to smart charging cables. This guarantees that the amount of used electricity can be precisely determined. This new technology might pave the way for greater EV use and fight air pollution in London because drivers could charge their vehicles closer to home. In outer London 33 percent of households do not have access to off-street parking to charge EVs. In inner London this number has risen to 46,1 per cent.
