BP’s recently released Energy Outlook report states that 100 Million EVs on the road by 2035 but internal combustion engines (ICE) will still make up 94 percent of transportation. The reason is that ICE vehicles will double in the same time so the demand for oil will also rise as well as carbon emissions. Furthermore, BP’s report states that the International Energy Agency’s 450 Scenario targets to stabilize the global temperature will not be reached. According to the report fuel efficiency and car sharing, carpooling and autononous vehicles will have a greater impact on reducing emissions than electric passenger cars. However, the report assumes a business-as-usual scenario that underestimates the legislative potentials of decarbonization.
