Smartphones can now be used as a parking remote control

Hitachi Automotive Systems and infotainment system vendor have developed a remote control parking system for vehicles which is controlled by a smartphone app. The driver does not need to sit inside the car while parking. The remote control works by using a WiFi link between the smartphone and a system inside the vehicle. The system itself includes a video camera and ultrasound sensors. The camera is connected to an ECU and a brake control unit from Hitachi. During the parking process the driver sees live images of the vehicle and the surroundings on its smartphone. Thus he can maneuver the car and take potential obstacles into account. The car does stop automatically when the sensors detect any obstacles.
