UPS has revealed plans for delivery drones that are built into trucks so that they can be launched at different points along the route. First tests ran on Monday int he USA and they were quite successful. The drones was launched from the top of a truck, autonomously delivered a package and returned to the truck at a different spot. UPS estimates to save up to 50 million USD per year by cutting off miles from the driver’s daily routes. Yet, UPS is bound to regulatory limits for now. Drones have to remain within their operator’s sight, which means they cannot depart from a truck that far.
