The Russian capital equipped traffic areas and others with 160,000 outdoor cameras to improve public safety. Due to a cooperation with the private sector, the costs for the cameras and installations could be cut by half. The saved funding was reallocated to support ICT efforts at public schools. A great revenue has been collected from fines of traffic violators so far.
