Businessman Ashwath Hegde has developed plastic bags and other plastic-based products made from tabioca and plant-based starch. His goal is to fight the waste problem of his city and others throughout India. While more and more plastic and other kinds of waste are generated in India, municipalities have a hard time in managing the disposal in a health and safe way, leaving public places, such as streets, with mountains of waste. Hegde’s plastic bags do not smell, when burnt, are edible and compostable. Due to rising demands in his products, he will have to expand his production.
