With the release of CIA’s ‘Mission’ documents on WikiLeaks, the vulnerabilities of the next generation vehicles have been exposed again. From the recall of 1.4 million Jeeps because of the possibilty to power up an engine remotely to the hacking incidents on Tesla’s S Sedan, these incidents have “brought it home to the industry that even if its improbable it’s technically possible,” Mark Wakefield at AlixPartners said. In a recent survey conducted by the University of Michigan’s Transportation Research Institute, it was found that 33 percent of respondents said they were “extremely concerned” with the exposure of the self drivers cars to the hackers which may result in fatal incidents.
