Santa Monica and West Sacremento, California, are testing an app that, similarly to Tinder, lets citizens swipe left and right to show approval or disapproval of local projects. With very few people attending public hearings and community workshops, and decisions being based on who shows up, results have been unrepresentative. Realizing that you cannot force people to accomodate to the schedule of the government, an app was conceived to engage the public.
