Saab, the Swedish aerospace giant recently conducted its first flight tests with 100% biofuel. A Saab Gripen D (dual seat) fighter, used the fuel Catalytic Hydrothermal Conversion Jet fuel (CHCJ-5)- which was made from rapeseed oil. It was for the first time that a single-engine fighter flew with 100% biofuel. The project was a joint effort of Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV), Saab and GKN Aerospace along with the knowledge and experience inputs regarding the certification of biofuel, were provided by the Unites States, US Navy, and US Air Force. The system testing, ground testing, and flight testing were conducted at Saab in Linköping.
