Gatwick Aiport, U.K., and DHL Supply Chain have opened a new £3.8 million waste management plant that will convert airport waste, mainly food waste, to energy onsite. The generated energy will be used to heat the airport’s waste management site and power their water recovery system, and will save £1,000 a day in the process. In the future, enough energy could be generated to power several other areas of the airport.
