Air Canada is planning to use biofuels for its flight operations, in an effort to support the environmental research. The project will be completed under The Civil Aviation Alternate Fuel Contrail and Emissions Research Project (CAAFCER) in which the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) will employ an advanced sensing equipment atop an aircraft to measure the impacts of biofuel blends on the contrail formation by aircraft. Five Air Canada biofuel flights between Montreal and Toronto will be used to conduct the tests. A modified T-33 research jet will be used to test the samples, the fuel will be produced by AltAir Fuels from used cooking oil supplied by SkyNRG. Air Canada itself has been a leader in incorporating the technologies and other non technical instruments to reduce its carbon footprint.
