Eneco and Mitsubishi have formed a German joint venture, Enspire ME, to develop what will be Europe’s largest battery plant. Hoping to outperform coal and gas plants on the German primary reserve market, the project will have a capacity of 48 megawatts and 50 megawatt-hours, and store surplus wind production to achieve its ambitious goal.
The partners expect construction to begin in June, and to have the plant operational in December this year. NEC will be responsible for the battery system.
