During the Smart Cities NYC conference this week, one talking point was inclusion and accessibility when building and implementing smart city technology. People with disabilities in mind, Microsoft, in collaboration with the Global Initiative for Inclusive Information and Communication Technologies, has launched a toolkit for accessibility standards, procurement policies, communication plans and a database of smart city apps and solutions that are already configured with access in mind.
The goal is to have every city become smart with all of their citizens in mind from the ground up, including accessibility in every discussion when planning to implement new products.
