Analysis released by Climate Action Tracker (CAT) at a UN climate meeting in Bonn, Germany, shows that new policies in China and India indicate that both countries will exceed the pledges made in the Paris climate agreement. China cancelled plans for 103 coal power stations, and India also changed its policies considerably since last year, with the Central Electricity Authority forecasting that no new coal plants will be needed between 2022 and 2027. Emissions in 2030 from both China and India could be 1-2 gigatons lower than CAT predicted previously.

In contrast, the US is on its way to fail its commitments to the agreement, and would have to make similar changes to get on track.
