The state of New York, following new legislation that allows for autonomous technology testing, has approved an application by Audi of America to test their automated vehicles in the state. The company will thus be the first to demonstrate and test in New York with Society of Automobile Engineers (SAE) Level 3 automation (capable of automated driving at posted highway speeds when specific conditions are met).

Demonstration will start in Albany mid-June, and for safety reasons, two trained engineers will always have to be present in the cars.
