The city of Boston launched a pilot with two distinct experiments trying to elaborate driver behaviour according to parking. One project merely increased the parking prices from $1.25 to $3.75 an hour. The other project experimented by using smart meters to adjust parking prices according to availability and time of day. Equipped with sensors the meters were able to provide information on fluctuation and demand and could therefore guide drivers to free parking spaces by giving the incentive of lower prices.
