Google’s Street View car cameras have received the first major design upgrade in eight years, and started patrolling streets last month. Eight years is a long time in the world of technology, and the images taken will show that by being a lot clearer than before.
The gathered data will strengthen Google’s digital grip on the world and further improve their digital mapping database. Taking more detailed pictures of storefronts and signs, Street View will aid users in answering questions that assume knowledge of what the world looks like. People will not only be able to take a look at certain places, but also find out, for example, what the opening hours on “that store on the corner” are.
