A study by Finland’s Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) and the Energy Watch Group (EWG) argues that a global transition to 100 percent renewable electricity is already in the making, and that current technologies are sufficient to secure the world’s electricity demand by 2050.
Published at the UN climate change conference, COP23, in Bonn, Germany, the study says that going completely renewable is no long term vision, and urges to not invest in coal, nuclear, gas, or oil. “There is no reason to invest one more dollar in fossil fuel or nuclear power production”, said EWG president Hans-Josef Fell. “Renewable energy provides cost-effective power supply.
