China-based electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is anticipating a rise in the demand for electric trucks in Canada, and is planning its first assembly facility in the country for next year.
The main reason to move production to Canada are provincial tax incentives that make Canada a more welcoming environment to electric cars and trucks, compared to the United States. “There is less of a barrier to entry when it comes to having Chinese products in Canada compared to the US,” BYD Canada spokesperson Ted Dowling explained.
The facility will be built in Ontario.
