A data tool to improve transparency for small cities

California-based software company OpenGov, the startup equivalent of a CDO for a lot of people, is introducing their newest offering, Performance Measures. The tool allows cities to create visuals that track a multitude of information, including, for example, emissions. It is being tested in 12 cities right now, and local governments are happy to have easy-to-read graphs and charts that visualize synched up financial and performance metrics.

“I’ve always been jealous of the bigger cities that have data teams and data officers,” she says. “This gives more power to smaller cities that don’t have data teams and graphic designers,” Rebecca Woodbury, a senior management analyst with the city of San Rafael, commented.
