A food tax is discussed to be introduced to reduce the consumption of high-emission products. Especially animal products would be concerned which through the tax would become more expensive and thereby less attractive for the consumer. A new study by Oxford researchers demonstrates that the introduction of a food tax could cut greenhouse gas emissions by one billion tonnes. At the same time the tax could safe the live of about half a million people as diet will become healtier.
