A new way of calculating the social costs of carbon

The National Academy of Science released a new report that includes the recommendation of updates to the calculation of the “social cost of carbon” as well as suggestions concerning the underestimation of the damages caused by global warming. The social cost of carbon was first adressed by a federal working group in 2009. The basic premise is that scientists agree climate change will have impact on human societies such as natural disasters, effects on health and the economy e.g. The social costs of carbon refer to monetary costs of emitting one ton of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere which will further contribute to global warming.
