The distance that can be covered to collect data on ships is limited to the line of sight. In order to get further, the U.S. Navy is testing sensors and antennas on parasail which is attached to the ship. The technology on the parasails functions as an intelligence and surveillance device platform and enables communication with and control of other ships in greater distance.
