Renesas Electronics Corporation is planning to launch a new 100kW-class inverter solution with a small volume capacity of 3.9 litres (L). The new inverter can be used for motors in mid-to-large-sized hybrid vehicles (HEVs) and mid- to small-sized electric vehicles (EVs). The company is also planning to provide a performance-maximizing solution kit, which includes software, along with hardware components such as microcontrollers (MCUs), Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) and fast recovery diode (FRD), along with other power semiconductor devices. The key features of this new solution include industry-leading volume and reduced inverter system weight, shortening of the development period by more than 50% and a higher fuel and electric power efficiency, which results from a 10% power loss reduction.
