The nonprofit organization Crisis Housing Solutions came up with the idea to build about two dozen metal-frame apartments from old shipping containers. The container departments are expected to rent for under $1,000 monthly. Regarding last year’s study on Natioanl Low Income Housing Coalition, the Orlando metropolitan area was ranked third for its lack of housing for extremely vulnerable and low-income residents.
All over the U.S. municipalities and designers are coming up with small-living concepts, since the housing situation as in Orlando is a widespread occurence in many metropolitan areas. Coming up with small- living concepts will also make the construction of the apartments less pricey since they could be assembled in modules, therefore contributes to saving on labor and materials.
