The Marrocon Minister of Environment used the moment of international attention on Morroco as the UN COP22 climate change meeting is held in Marrakech, to launch the first bike-sharing service on the African continent. Three hundred “Medina Bikes” are provided at 10 docking stations throughout the city. The bike intitiative is only one among many projects realized in Morroco that aim at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Due to those efforts the country is ranked as the only non-European in the top-ten of the 2016 Climate Change Performance Index of Germanwatch.
