The British company “Closed Loop” has collaborated with researchers in the UK to develop a technology that can recycle coffee cups. The technology called “Simply Cups” turns used paper cups into new plastic compounds without seperating the paper and plastic components. The new compounds are polymers that can be used to make trays, place mats coasters and other items. Closed Loop has already recycled more than seven million cups, now it is expanding to Australia. The company installed coffee cup collection bins in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. The collected cups will be stored for public displays and then sent offshore for recycling.
