At the Argonne National Laboratory, scientists managed to synthesize a new class of fluorinated sulfone electrolytes. Those electrolytes show enhanced oxidation stability, reduced viscosity and superior separator wettability, and therefore make higher-voltage and higher-energy Lithium-ion batteries possible. Li-ion batteries are omnipresent in end-user electronics because of their high energy density and long cycle life.
