A new hybrid electric ferry has been launched in the harbor of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The ferry is retrofitted with an electric propulsion system that replaces the original 300HP diesel engine. The powertrain is supposed to ensure that the ferry is supplied with electricity for half of its operation time. If the project is successful the City Government plans to retrofit the rest of its fleet as well. The electric ferry helps to reduce the pollution levels around the harbor.
